It is widely expected that the pitch at the new Opta Stadium in Perth will have the extra pace and bounce which can trouble the best in the business.

Looking at the conditions, West Indies pacers have been urged to be restrained and patient against an experienced Australian batting lineup in the first Test, starting on Wednesday.

West Indies have not won a Test series in Australia for 25 years and will start as the underdogs in the 2-match Test series. They might be tempted to go for an all-out attack, but pacer Jason Holder has advised against bowling too full or too short on a pitch where runs can come pretty quickly.

"People get carried away seeing the pace and bounce, but you still have got to find a really good length suitable for the wicket. Understanding when to attack, when to defend and just understanding the context of the game," Holder said on Monday.

He added: "I think the most important thing for our bowlers is to make sure that the Australian batters work really hard for their runs. We've got to assess the conditions early and make the necessary adjustments."

The Test series is a part of the World Test Championship and the visitors will be hoping to cause an upset Down Under.
