'David Warner has paid his price and deserves a go'-Glenn McGrath

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath thinks David Warner deserves to lead the national side, as he has already paid enough price for the Sandpaper gate scandal in 2018. 

During the Test series against South Africa four years ago, Warner, along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft, was banned from all formats of the game by Australian Cricket. This was due to them involved in ball-tampering, which resulted in Warner and Smith being handed a one-year ban, while Bancroft was barred for nine months. 

CA gave Warner a lifetime leadership ban for the captaincy of the Australian team. However, earlier this week, the Australian board amended the policy, which has made the southpaw eligible again for donning the leadership hat. 

With Aaron Finch taking retirement from ODIs and enduring a T20 World Cup debacle, there are high chances of the top-order batter again coming to the helm. Although Cummins led the Aussie ODI team in the recent England series, he is likely to continue as the red-ball captain while giving the reins to Warner in white-ball formats. 

Here is what Glenn McGrath said on Warner

"They [Warner, Smith, Bancroft] have paid a heavier price than any other cricketer that's been done for ball tampering and if that [captaining Australia] is something David Warner wants to do and the powers that be are happy, then good luck to him,

"He's definitely a player who plays with passion and emotion and is aggressive, but I think he's paid his price and deserves a go."

So far, Warner has captained Australia in three ODIs with a 100% success rate. On the other hand, the Men in Yellow have secured victories on eight out of nine T20Is.
