On Friday, hosts New Zealand crushed India by seven wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series in Auckland.

Batting first, India posted a massive total of 306, which New Zealand chased without breaking a sweat, courtesy of the match-winning knocks from Kane Williamson and Tom Latham.

Skipper Williamson held the fort for the Kiwis and played a flamboyant unbeaten knock of 94 runs off 98 balls. In this process, the stylish batter completed 3000 ODI runs (after Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Nathan Astle and Brendon McCullum) on home soil and breached the 1000-run mark in ODIs against India.

Most runs for New Zealand against India in ODIs

  • Ross Taylor - 1385 Runs, Average: 47.75, Strike Rate: 84.76
  • Nathan Astle - 1207 Runs, Average: 43.10, Strike Rate: 79.40
  • Stephen Fleming - 1098 Runs, Average: 32.29, Strike Rate: 71.26
  • Kane Williamson - 1078 Runs, Average: 43.12, Strike Rate: 75.43
  • Martin Guptill - 925 Runs, Average: 28.90, Strike Rate: 84.01

Williamson was having a torrid time with the bat; therefore, this inning must have boosted his morale. The second ODI between the two teams will be played in Hamilton on November 27.
