As per emerging reports, Chennai Super Kings have decided to retain Maheesh Theekshana ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Notably, the four-time champions bagged the crafty Sri Lankan spinner for only 70 lakhs in the mega auction. Theekshana justified his selection for the Men in Yellow, scalping twelve wickets in nine outings at an impressive strike rate of 17.50 and an economy rate of 7.46.

Led by the legendary MS Dhoni, the Super Kings had a horrendous IPL 2022 campaign, claiming the ninth position in the points table with only four wins in fourteen encounters. So, they are expected to revamp their squad, releasing the players who didn't turn up for them in the previous season.

However, talking about Theekshana, the wily finger spinner emerged as one of the rare shining lights for CSK in an otherwise disastrous campaign, proving himself their go-to-man in the middle overs. He was particularly lethal against the RHBs, as seven of his twelve victims were right-handers.

Additionally, the 22-year-old recently recorded prolific numbers in the Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup, claiming 15 wickets at a surreal economy of 6.72. Such impressive outings certainly paved the way for his retention for the IPL 2023.
