After a disheartening exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, India will have a lot to think about the future heading forward.

While skipper Rohit Sharma has been somewhat successful when it comes to the shortest format, his failure to help Indian clinch both the Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup 2022 has raised some evident questions.

India have a lot to think when it comes to shaping the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The team is currently ladened with a lot of senior players, with clouds of uncertainty over their future.

With a successful campaign with Gujarat Titans in their inaugural edition, Hardik Pandya impressed everyone with his leadership abilities as he led the team to the title.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar added on the captaincy debate after India's exit from the tournament and backed Hardik to lead the side,

"Having won the Indian Premier League on his first assignment as the captain, they would have marked Hardik Pandya out as the next captain. Hardik Pandya will definitely take over the team in the future and there will be some retirements, you never know,"

"Players will be giving it a lot of thought. There are several players in their mid-30s who will be reconsidering their position in the Indian T20I team."

Hardik leadership skills will be front and centre against New Zealand as the allrounder will lead the Blues in three-match T20I series in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma.
