England men will kickstart their T20 World Cup campaign against Afghanistan in Perth on Saturday.

Before the crucial clash, express pacer Mark Wood has expressed his desire to be England's game-changer with the ball in middle overs.

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Wood revealed his plans to focus more on getting wickets than bowling economically in the showpiece event. Additionally, the 32-year-old seemed determined to play the enforcer's role in the 7-15 overs phase, troubling batters with his pace and accuracy.

Here's what Wood said

"My role isn't to try and go for five, six an over. My role is to try and get good players out. It'll be to disrupt the sequence of the attack, so it's not just spin, spin, spin through the middle, or to try and make something happen, maybe for the guy bowling at the other end. If I can do that, it'll help the team later down the line."

Despite being an extremely talented bowler, Wood's international career has been constantly marred by injuries. He has just recovered from a fatal elbow injury, which kept him out of action for a long time. However, to England's fortune, he is raring to go and make his mark in the showpiece event.
