Cricket Australia (CA) today announced Test skipper Patrick Cummins as Australia's new One-Day International (ODI), taking over the role after Aaron Finch retired from international cricket.

Cummins was recently embroiled in an off-the-field controversy regarding Australia's main sponsor, 'Alinta'. Reports doing the rounds suggested that Cummins pressurised the board on cutting-off ties with Alinta after the latter's record on indigenous issues came to light.

Speaking to the media in Brisbane, Cummins clarified his stance and stated that he has absolutely no role in the decision between the two parties to part ways next summer.

The 29-year-old further claimed that the news was fabricated and baseless.

"No, not at all. Nick, the CEO and I, have a really good relationship, we talk about lots of things. But no, I’ve been a big supporter of all our partners over the last few things," as quoted by Fox Sports

CA also released a statement denying such claims

“CA confirms that at no point did any conversation between men’s team captain Pat Cummins and CA CEO Nick Hockley influence Alinta’s decision to finish its sponsorship with Cricket Australia in June 2023.”

Cummins is an avid supporter of climate change and has constantly participated in awareness programmes.
