IND vs SA: David Miller opines on his century coming at a losing cause

David Miller reckoned that India's score was way above-par, but they tried to take the chase as deep as possible in the second fixture of the T20I series on Sunday at Guwahati. 

The decision to bowl first certainly backfired for the South African team, as Rohit Sharma (43) and KL Rahul (57) were terrific to provide an electrifying start to the hosts. Then, Suryakumar Yadav (61) and Virat Kohli (49*) continued their blistering form to see India finish with a total of 237 on the board. 

In response to the chase, South Africa lost the wickets of Temba Bavuma and Rilee Rossouw in the second over, which put the visitors on the back foot. Then, Aiden Markram did well to contribute 33 off 19 to give a glimmer of hope for the team. 

It was the arrival of Miller, which changed the context of the game, as he was sensational with his hitting and keep the Proteas in the hunt. However, Quinton de Kock couldn't quite complement him in terms of acceleration and playing as a second fiddle. 

In the end, Miller remained unbeaten on 106 off 47, while Quinton accumulated 69* off 48, and South Africa finished on 221 and lost by 16 runs. 

In the post-match interview, Miller thinks it was a belter of a wicket, but the wickets upfront kept them away from securing a victory. 

"As you saw, we were just 16 runs short. He (De Kock) walked up to me (after the game) and said 'Well played, I'm sorry. It was a great wicket, and India put us under pressure from the start. We had to go from ball one and the freedom allowed us to express ourselves."
