Phil Salt faced just 41 cherries to unleash 88* in England’s emphatic eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the sixth T20I. His knock marked only the second fifty of his T20I career and it brought the seven-match series to levelling terms.

Phil Salt grateful of team management’s backing

Phil Salt was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his herculean performance in the run-chase. Prior to his run-scoring blitz in the sixth T20I, the cricketer had notched up just 59 runs in the first five matches of the series.

The team management seems to have persisted with the youngster, despite his poor run of form with the bat. After the match, Salt acknowledged the backing he received from the management and expressed his delight of putting up a match-winning performance for his side. He said:

“Definitely one of my best T20 knocks. Good to step up with the series on the line. It's always a challenge to play at the top of the order. Grateful to get the backing from the management and to keep batting the way I play. The competition is great and everyone is trying to put their best foot forward.”

With the series levelled at 3-3, the two sides will now collide in the final T20I in Lahore on October 2. The series serves as a dress rehearsal for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia later this month.
