Steven Mullaney hopeful of Haseeb Hameed regaining England Test spot

Once regarded as an upcoming batting sensation in England's domestic circles, Haseeb Hameed lost his way in the middle. Hameed made his Test debut aged 19 against India at Rajkot and managed to impress experts with his tight technique.

The Lancashire-born scored 219 runs in three-Tests before a finger injury cut short his tour. A string of low scores saw him drop from the XI before making a comeback last year in the home series against India.

A disastrous 'The Ashes' 2021-22 in Australia witnessed him get sidelined. Hameed unyieldingly slammed 1,235 runs in 14 matches for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club (NCCC) in the recently concluded County Championship 2022 Division Two.

In a club statement, skipper Steven Mullaney praised the 23-year-old for his dedication towards batting and hoped that a fruitful Division One-run in County Championship next season will see him regain his Test spot.

"He just has a hunger to score runs. The way he goes about his business, he’s an unbelievable person and he deserves all the plaudits that come his way. The best thing about him is his dedication

"I’m convinced there is a Test batsman in there. He might have to do it again next season in Division One to put himself back in the reckoning, but he can be very proud of what he’s achieved this year.”

Overall, he has played 10 Tests, amassing 439 runs with four fifties. 

The part-time leg-spinner has played 101 First-Class and 30 List-A games, accumulating 5,438 and 972 runs, respectively.
