Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is confident that out-of-form Shafali Verma will be back amongst runs in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 starting Saturday.

Verma has been one of the linchpins of India's batting unit in the last few years. She has formed a strong partnership with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana at the top of the order over the last couple of years.

However, the teenage sensation has struggled to put up a big score in recent times.

In T20Is this year, the swashbuckling opener has mustered 238 runs from 12 games at a sub-20 average and a strike rate of 123.31, failing to register a single half-century along the way.

Kaur extends support to Shafali

While addressing a press conference ahead of India's first game against Sri Lanka, Kaur was asked about Shafali's struggle with the bat to which the Indian skipper replied that the team has been monitoring her and she's doing really well in the net sessions.

"From the practice sessions we've had, I can say she is doing really well. It's part of life - sometimes you play well, sometimes you can't continue your good form. But she's looking good and it's just a matter of spending some time in the middle for her to get out of her [rough] patch.

"She is working hard every day. This is a platform where you can express yourself and play free cricket. We will try to give her enough match time so that she can get her confidence back."
