Virat Kohli leapfrogs Rohit Sharma, Martin Guptill for new height in T20Is

Virat Kohli failed to get going in the first T20I against South Africa. However, the ‘Men in Blue’ still galloped the visitors, courtesy of a run-chase masterclass by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav.

Despite Kohli’s rare failure with the bat, the cricketer has now scaled a new height in T20Is.

Virat Kohli achieves new record on 100th T20I innings

The former Indian captain scored just three, in what was the 100th T20I inning of his illustrious career. So far, the cricketer has piled up 3,663 runs across 100 innings from his 108 matches, at an alluring average of 50.17.

Kohli now holds the record of scoring most T20I runs in the first 100 innings among men’s cricketers. Previously, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill had listed 2,976 runs off his first 100 innings, and the dynamic opener now sits at 3,497 runs after 117 innings.

Rohit Sharma is third on the list, having compiled 2,773 runs from his initial 100 knocks for India. The Indian skipper’s T20I aggregate is now 3,694 runs from 132 innings, thus making him the highest run-getter in the world.

Notably, Kohli is just 31 runs behind his Indian teammate for the overall world record, despite featuring in 32 lesser innings than him.

The elegant right-hander is also the only cricketer in the world with a T20I average of above 50, among batters with more than 1,000 runs.

Additionally, Kohli has the most fifty-plus scores in the format (34), and is once again leading Sharma in the race (32).
