One of India's greatest ever to play the game of cricket, Jhulan Goswami, retired from all forms of cricket after the third ODI against England yesterday. The 39-year-old has represented India in 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is, picking 355 wickets across all the formats. 

She not only holds the most wickets in women's internationals across formats, but also most wickets ever in the women's ODI history (255). She is also the leading wicket taker in the women's World Cups, with 43 scalps.

The senior pacer was given a perfect farewell at the Lord's, with India defeating England by 16 runs in the final ODI to win the series by 3-0. Goswami had a decent outing in her final game as she ended up with figures of 2-30 off her 10 overs. 


"I hope I have been successful in inspiring the next generation" 

Goswami, in her retirement note said that playing for India over the years has been exhilarating, to say the least. She has represented India in five World Cups (2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022). Talking about what ignited her passion for the game, She said:

“Ever since watching the Women’s World Cup final at Eden Gardens back in 1997, it was my dream to play for India, and I am thankful to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal), Women’s Cricket Association of India (WCAI) and Air India officials for reposing faith in me and giving me the opportunity to fulfil my dream."

The 39-year-old has been an inspiration women cricketers not just in India, but for women all around the world. Speaking about the same she said:

"I hope I have been successful in inspiring the next generation of girls to play this beautiful game."
