Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting shared his verdict to settle the never-ending 'Jasprit Bumrah versus Shaheen Shah Afridi' debate in the cricket world.

While Bumrah has been leading the pace attack for India across all formats for quite some time now, pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi has become the go-to bowler of the Men in Green in recent years.

In a recent interaction with Sanjana Ganesan, the host of The ICC Review, former Australian skipper Ponting conceded that Jasprit Bumrah will outperform Shaheen Shah Afridi in the upcoming T20I World Cup 2022 starting in Australia next month.

Ponting said that Shaheen and Bumrah have been the front-line pacers for the respective nations across all formats. However, on being asked to pick one of two, the Australian legend went with experience and backed the India ace pacer to outfox Shaheen Afridi on Australian soil.

“Look, how do you split those two guys? They are two of the best performing bowlers in the world in the last couple of years in all formats of the game.”

“I’ll probably go on experience alone - I’ll go for Bumrah. He’s played a fair bit of cricket in Australia now, played more in Australia than Afridi, and has played more big tournaments as well than Afridi has.”

Bumrah was sidelined with an injury during the Asia Cup 2022 and he will be desperate to make his mark in the upcoming T20I World Cup. India certainly missed his experience and quality in the death overs during the Asia Cup and his return could not have been better timed.
