Samuel Badree speaks on the influence of leg-spinners in T20 cricket

Former Caribbean spinner Samuel Badree during an interaction with veteran sports journalist Vimal Kumar on OneCricket's YouTube channel, talked about the impact and role of wrist spinners in T20 cricket.

When asked about the strategy of teams not using wrist spin upfront in the powerplay as an attacking option, especially after he has proved that it could be beneficial at the start, to this he replied that when he came to the circuit, there weren't many in that category, however, the leg spinners certainly have a psychological advantage over any batter.

"I think initially when I came through with T20 cricket, we didn't have too many wrist spinners around, but its very nature possesses that mystery, guys aren't too sure which way the ball is going, so from the moment they see a wrist spinner whether it is a right-hand wrist spinner or left-hand wrist spinner, you have a psychological advantage. 

"As the game has evolved, we've seen a plethora of responses come through, some of the huge majority of the top 10 T20 International bowlers in the world at one point were wrist spinners, I think it was up to nine out of ten were wrist spinners or something like that, some ridiculous number, and it had to do with the fact of that mystery and guys not able to play, respond as well."

He also mentioned that the leg-spinners at one point in time were dominating the T20I ranking, with some nine out of ten slots having their name.
