The County Championship Division One witnessed two matches coming to an end on Thursday (15 September). Here's a brief report on what transpired in Northampton and Birmingham. 


Warwickshire vs Somerset

Somerset commenced the final day's proceedings on 277/4, while ahead by 300 runs. The middle-order batters George Bartlett scored his sixth first-class hundred and Lewis Goldsworthy was good support as the visitors declared on 340/7 with a lead of 363 runs. 

In response, Warwickshire lost their opener Rob Yates early. However, the experienced duo of Dom Sibley (58) and Alex Davies (54) were clinical to keep the steering at a brisk pace. Then Sam Hain (52*) and Will Rhodes (44) were proficient as well. 

Along with Hain, Danny Briggs remained unbeaten as Warwickshire finished on 256/6 and the match ended as a draw.

Northamptonshire vs Surrey

Northamptonshire resumed their Day 4 on 209/5, with a lead of 127 runs. Soon, Ricardo Vasconcelos was dismissed for a well-made 79 off 138. Afterwards, the young prodigy Saif Zaib was sensational with his knock of 124 off 204 balls, which was his only second FC century. 

The support of James Sales and Lizaad Williams in the lower-order helped hosts to finish on 426, and pose a target of 345 runs. 

Surrey skipper Rory Burns was dismissed for 1 in an unfortunate run-out dismissal. Nevertheless, Ryan Patel (32*) and Hashim Amla (8*) remained unbeaten for the team, and the match was drawn.
