Mahela Jayawardena joins Sri Lankan World Cup squad as a consultant

According to information provided by Sri Lanka Cricket, veteran Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardena will join the Sri Lanka cricket squad as a Consultant Coach for the 2022 ICC Men's T20I World Cup in Australia, slated to begin on October 16.

The Sri Lankan national team will depart the island for Australia on October 2 and former captain Mahela Jayawardena will join the team in Australia on October 6 as a Consultant Coach, according to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva, who was addressed the reporters at a news conference in Colombo on September 15.

Mahela Jayawardena's views on Sri Lanka Cricket

According to Mahela Jayawardena, Sri Lanka's unexpected victory at the Asia Cup has altered expectations, and the island nation should concentrate on winning the ICC Men's T20I World Cup, which will begin in October.

Jayawardena has urged the Sri Lankan players to enjoy their cricket and give it their best.

"Just go out there and enjoy your cricket and play. They had a successful T20 tour in Australia in November. They did an extremely good job. In light of everything, I believe they are in an excellent position right now."

Sri Lanka scripted a remarkable turnaround and claimed five back-to-back victories to win the continental title for the sixth time in their history after a shocking loss in the first match against Afghanistan. This will boost their confidence for the 2022 World Cup, where they will begin the campaign with two crucial warm up matches against Zimbabwe (October 10) and Ireland (October 13).
