Zimbabwe is looking to play positive and aggressive cricket: captain Regis Chakabva

Zimbabwe cricket in recent months has seen both highs and lows. A home series win (T20I and ODI) against Bangladesh and a recent ODI win over hosts, Australia, on Saturday have lifted the spirits of the players heading into the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

It was Zimbabwe's only win over Australia in Australia and their third win over the five-time world champions. Skipper Regis Chakabva credited new coach Dave Houghton for bringing change in Zimbabwean cricket lately.

Interestingly, Houghton was part of Zimbabwe's side that notched up the nation's first-ever win over Australia in 1983.

"His big focus was changing the way that we play. We’ve been looking to play a lot more positively, a lot more aggressive. That’s the only way we’re going to be competing against Australia and these other big teams."

"If we’re looking to rise up the rankings, we can’t keep on playing the same way that we’ve been playing."

Zimbabwe's road ahead

Zimbabwe's next international assignment will be the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They are placed alongside Ireland, West Indies and Scotland in Group B of the first round.

All their matches will be played at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The then Craig Ervine-led Zimbabwe won the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier B back in July, beating the Netherlands in a low-scoring final by 37 runs.
