Ranked the number one One-Day International (ODI) side in the ICC Rankings, New Zealand will clash against Australia in the upcoming 3-match series. One of the most captivating rivalries in world cricket, the trans-Tasman competition will be re-visited after two years, when the 2020 series was canceled midway due to covid-19.

Australian skipper Aaron Finch on the eve of the first ODI tomorrow (Sept 6) has hailed the visiting Blackcaps side for maintaining benchmarks in world cricket across the three formats. Since 2022, New Zealand have lost just one ODI, claiming series wins over Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland.

Australia, too, are coming off a 2-1 series win over Zimbabwe.

What Finch had to say

"They're a fantastic unit, they have been for a long time. They continue to be one of the benchmarks in world cricket in all three formats of the game and the fact that they're No.1 in ODI cricket at the moment is testament to that."

"They're always close battles regardless of what format,"

Still feel like I'm a pretty good player: Finch

The 35-year-old has had a torrid time with the bat in the past 12 months, having scored just 164 runs from 11 ODIs. Finch's recent outing against Zimbabwe yielded him just 21 runs.

With two World Cups coming up, Finch expressed confidence in himself and looked forward to regaining lost form soon.

"Obviously the performances personally haven't been there in terms of the output of runs, but still feel like I'm a pretty good player. You're always looking to improve and I think being able to train consistently and keep tinkering with my game to get better is the most important thing."
