Riding on the brilliance of Sam Cook and Samit Patel, Trent Rockets defeated Manchester Original to emerge as the winner of the Men's Hundred Competition on Saturday (3 September) at Lord's.

Opting to bat first, Originals lost their in-form openers Phil Salt (11) and Laurie Evans (4) early. Samuel Cook followed it up by picking the wicket of Wayne Madsen (3) as well.

The experienced campaigner, Samit Patel wreaked havoc by sending Tristan Stubbs (18) and Ashton Turner (26) back to the hut.

However, Tom Lammonby (21) displayed composure to provide critical contribution, before Cook breached his defence. In the end, Originals posted 120 on the board, which was certainly a below-par score.

Cook scalped four wickets, while Patel followed it up three scalps.

It was a rather an average start by the Rockets, with Alex Hales (8) failing to live up to his expectations. The likes of Dawid Malan (19) and Tom Kohler Cadmore (18) played cautiously to lay a platform for the middle-order.

Although the middle-order could not produce a magic, but they did most of the things right to stitch a partnership. Colin Munro (16) and Tom Moores (16) steered the team at an asking rate.

In the end, Lewis Gregory remained unbeaten on 17 off 6 to finish off the chase for the Rockets, with two balls to spare.

Paul Walter was the pick of the bowlers for Originals with two scalps.

Brief Scores:

Manchester Originals- 120/9 (100b)

Ashton Turner 26 (13), Tom Lammonby 21 (18)

Trent Rockets- 121/8 (98)
