Suryakumar Yadav was absolutely sensational as India registered a 40-run victory against an easy opponent Hong Kong. The batter flaunted his power-hitting skills on Wednesday as his scintillating knock of 68 runs powered India to a massive score of 192 runs.

Suryakumar hit the ball all over the park to smack six boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 261.54. His knock came at a crucial time for India as they were searching for some momentum with the bat in the death. The early dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma and slow innings by KL Rahul had managed to put the Men in Blue in trouble.

The skipper lavish praises on Suryakumar

However, the fifties by the Mumbai-born and former Indian skipper Virat Kohli confirmed India’s selection to the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2022. The current captain Rohit seemed highly impressed with Suryakumar’s shot selection and he lavished praises on the middle-order batter for the same.

Rohit believes that though Suryakumar played a lot of out-on-book shots at the Dubai International Stadium, he was mindful of not losing his wicket recklessly. Speaking in the post-match presentation, the Indian skipper added,

"Honestly the kind of innings that [Suryakumar] played today, the words will be short. Every now and then, he comes up with such kind of knocks. With the confidence he's got, he's going to come out and bat fearlessly, and some of the shots he played today, are not in the books. The shot selection was also crucial, we know he can play all around the park, and that's what he did today."

India’s flexible middle-order

Further in the interaction, Rohit also reflected on India’s batting order going forward in the competition. Though India have a fixed top order in the form of KL Rahul, Rohit and Virat, they have consistently made changes in their middle order.

In the first Asia Cup match, they sent Ravindra Jadeja to bat at number four while the game against Hong Kong saw Suryakumar getting the chance. Speaking about the changes, the skipper mentioned that the team will have a flexible middle-order according to the situation of the game. The management has conveyed the same to the players as well and they are eager to experiment with different playing positions.
