A brilliant 35-ball half-century from Laura Wolvaardt and an amazing spell of leg-spin bowling from Katie Levick (2-10 in 20 deliveries) helped the Northern Superchargers finish their campaign on a high as they beat Southern Brave by 20 runs in Leeds on Wednesday.

Chasing 146, the Southern Brave got off to a disastrous start as they lost both their openers- Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt- for a duck.

Tahlia McGrath also couldn't last long as she perished for a 6-ball 4, leaving Brave reeling at 28/3 after 25 deliveries.

Brave' kept losing wickets at regular intervals thanks to Levick and Alice Davidson Richards, who chipped in with the wickets of a dangerous-looking Sophia Dunkley (38 off 30) and Maia Bouchier (12 off 13).

When Dunkley was dismissed at the score of 64, it looked as if the Southern Brave would struggle to get past the 100-run mark.

However, handy cameos from Amanda Wellington (25 off 10), and Freya Kemp (19 off 19) ensured that they lent some respectability to their eventual total of 125/9.

Laura Wolvaardt led Northern Superchargers' with the bat

Earlier, Northern Superchargers rode on a 35-ball half-century from opener Laura Wolvaardt and cameos from Heather Graham (26 off 19) and Jenny Gunn (15* off 9) to post 145/6 in their allotted quota of 100 deliveries.

Wolvaardt smashed seven 4s in her knock and it was her 47-run stand with Graham (in 29 deliveries) that gave the Superchargers a platform on which they went to build a 140+ score, thanks to Jenny Gunn's cameo.

For the Southern Brave', leg-spinner Amanda Wellington proved to be the main wrecker-in-chief as she claimed 3 wickets for just 17 runs in 20 deliveries.

The eventual result has no bearing on the playoffs though. While the Superchargers bow out of the tournament with a consolation win, the Southern Brave will take on Trent Rockets Women in the Eliminator on Friday, September 02.

Brief Scores:

Northern Superchargers Women 145-6 (100)

Laura Wolvaardt 50 (35), Heather Graham 26 (19);
Amanda Wellington 3-17 (20)

Southern Brave Women 125-9 (100)

Sophia Dunkley 38 (30), Amanda Wellington 25 (10);
Katie Levick 2-10 (20), Alice Davidson 2-39 (20)
