Stuart Broad is set to take field for the second Test of England’s three-match series against South Africa. The match will mark his 158th Test appearance, thus bringing him closer to former captain Alastair Cook’s 161 matches as the second-highest Test representative of England.

Notably, the upcoming Manchester match-up also provides Broad an opportunity to scale a major landmark in international cricket.

Stuart Broad 800 wickets loading at Old Trafford?

The 36-year-old speedster made his international debut in 2006. Since then, he has collected 798 international wickets across 157 Tests, 121 ODIs and 56 T20I matches.

Broad’s Test haul of 555 wickets puts him third on the list of most successful fast bowlers of the format, behind Australian star Glenn McGrath and the Englishman’s new-ball partner James Anderson.

Moreover, his tally of 798 wickets places him at number eight among all-time highest wicket-takers across all international forms of the game. If the speedster manages to add two more wickets to his tally in his upcoming Test against South Africa, he will become only the second cricketer from his country and eighth overall to scale the 800-wicket mark.
