Ajay Jadeja slams KL Rahul for his lack of match practice ahead of Asia Cup

Ajay Jadeja is furious about skipper KL Rahul's poor decisions during the toss in the Zimbabwe series, which has left him devoid of enough match practice ahead of the Asia Cup.

Fortunately, Rahul found himself on the right side of the coin in all three matches of the series. However, the 30-year-old opted to bowl first in the first two fixtures, which gave him minimal chances of getting into rhythm and get enough runs under his belt.

He did not get a chance to bat in the first fixture, while the remaining two saw him scoring only 31 runs at a dismal average of 15.50.

Furthermore, this was the first competitive series for Rahul after the IPL 2022, due to his injuries and Covid-19 concerns.

The cricketer-turned commentator thinks it was critical for Rahul to get confidence before heading to the UAE for the Asia Cup.

"The only one who has probably gone home disappointed is the one who has fielded 110 overs and he thinks it's 150. He [KL Rahul] didn't get to bat enough and he has no one else to blame but himself - not choosing to bat the three times that you could have," said Jadeja.

Ajay Jadeja impressed by Gill, Dhawan

The 51-year-old lauded Shubman Gill for his performances and flexibility to perform well at the opening slot or the number three position. Gill emerged as the top-scorer in the series with 245 runs to secure a series whitewash for India.

Jadeja further hailed Shikhar Dhawan for his consistency for the Men in Blue over the last decade. The experienced campaigner hit 154 runs at an average of 77.
