Pitch Report

The iconic Trent Bridge witnessed an average score of 168.5 in the last game. The pitch brings spinners into the game, as evident from the fact that the tweakers have picked 40 per cent of the total wickets fallen at the venue this season. However, it doesn’t offer any considerable assistance to fast bowlers, so they will need either raw pace or variations to succeed.

Team Analysis

TRENT ROCKETS

The Rockets have had a brilliant season so far and currently occupy the second spot in the points table with three victories from four matches.

Possible Strategies:

  • Trent Rockets replaced Zak Crawley with keeper-batter Tom Moores in the last game. Moores didn’t get a chance to bat and the Rockets won the game convincingly. So, we don’t see the Lewis Gregory-led team make any changes.
  • Eoin Morgan, since 2019, has averaged 61 and struck at 154.43 against slow left-armers. To avoid Morgan’s clash with Samit Patel, we might see the latter rolling his arms a bit earlier. This move would increase Patel’s wicket-taking probability, as London’s top three, Rossington, Bell-Drummond and Maxwell, collectively average just 17.52 against the same bowling type in T20s since 2021.

Threat:

  • Kieron Pollard has averaged 102 and struck at an incredible 204 against left-arm seamers in the death overs since 2021. So, he emerges as a direct threat to Trent’s pace duo Luke Wood and Daniel Sams.

Opportunity:

image-l707ndvlShamsi could play a big role

  • London’s two premier batters, Eoin Morgan and Glenn Maxwell, collectively average a mere 9.66 against Trent’s lead spinner Tabraiz Shamsi in T20s. This provides Shamsi the opportunity to weave his magic in the middle overs.

LONDON SPIRIT

Eoin Morgan’s London Spirit currently top the points table, winning all four of their games.

Possible Strategies:

  • Just like Trent Rockets, we also don’t expect London Spirit to make any changes in their playing eleven, as they have had a dream run in the tournament with their first-choice combination.
  • Trent’s openers, Alex Hales and Dawid Malan, have amassed 84 runs without getting out against right-arm seamers in the first 36 balls in the tournament so far. As London Spirit have all right-arm pacers in their lineup, Eoin Morgan might open the bowling with Glenn Maxwell and Mason Crane, holding the pacers back in the initial phase. This would also increase the threat for the deadly opening duo, as they were dismissed by similar bowlers against Birmingham Phoenix.

Threat:

  • Colin Munro has struck at a magnificent rate of 152.2 against slow left-armers in T20s this year. So, he is a definite threat to Liam Dawson. For the same reason, we might see Maxwell outbowling Dawson in this game.

Opportunity:

  • Trent Rockets have an RHB-heavy middle order, and their premier left-handed batter Colin Munro averages just over 22 against right-arm leg spinners. This provides Mason Crane the opportunity to star with the ball tomorrow.
