India's wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has showered praise on pacer Shardul Thakur for his valuable contributions to Indian cricket thus far.

Since his debut for India, Shardul has made a name for himself as an impact player who makes things happen on the field. Primarily a bowler, Shardul has made match-winning contributions with the bat as well.

The right-handed batter has played decisive knocks against Australia and England away from home. With the ball, he picked wickets at crucial times for India in Test cricket.

DK recalls first impression of Shardul

Talking about his Test career, in particular, Karthik highlighted how a pacer from Mumbai turned into a Test player for India.

“A lot of people thought he was new and saw him in that Test series, but I’ve seen him from 2012, playing for Bombay, coming in when there were probably not many people watching Ranji Trophy,"

Karthik thinks that Shardul's confidence in himself and his abilities is giving him returns at the international level. He also underlined that the seam-bowling all-rounder had bagged 300 wickets in domestic cricket before representing India in the longest format of the game

“What I’ve liked that he had taken 300 domestic wickets before playing Test cricket and that would keep a bowler in good stead. So when I saw him in England, the first thing I wanted to see was are they able to transfer the confidence to the international level. And there is one thing that he’s answered very clearly. If there’s one thing he does not lack is his confidence."
