I can get back into the India's white-ball team: Umesh Yadav hopeful of a comeback

Everything hasn’t been rosy for Umesh Yadav in white-ball cricket. The Indian seamer has consistently struggled in finding a permanent spot in the Indian team. It’s been over three years that Umesh has donned the blue jersey.

His last white-ball outing for India came in the form of a T20 International against Australia in February 2019. However, the 34-year-old is now hoping for a comeback in the blue jersey. Yadav broke the shackles during the Indian Premier League 2022 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders.

He was the only positive for the Knight Riders with 16 wickets from 12 matches. The pacer is now continuing his good form in England’s domestic one-day tournament. Playing for Middlesex, Umesh has scalped a whopping 15 wickets in just five matches.

The seamer reveals the reason behind his good performance

The back-to-back good performances have ignited the hope of an Indian comeback for the seamer. Speaking about what has changed in 2022, the Nagpur-born revealed that he is now enjoying his time on the field.

“I didn’t get opportunities in IPL. I didn’t play much cricket after that. So when I got the chance with KKR, I knew I had to do it right. I applied all my experience of so many years of white-ball cricket because I knew back-to-back big tournaments, two world cups, were coming.

“I think if I do well I can get back into the Indian white ball teams. I am enjoying my bowling. Whatever I’m thinking and wanting to do, I can bowl. From the IPL onwards, this pace is going well,” Umesh mentioned as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Umesh questions his absence from India’s squad

The seamer also raised questions about his non-selection for India’s tour to West Indies and Zimbabwe. As most of the main players gave the two tours a miss, the Indian selectors rewarded the IPL star performers with the call-up.

However, the same hasn’t been the case with Umesh. The pace sensation is still hoping for just one chance to prove his merit on the big stage.

“Almost everyone who has done well in IPL has a chance. I am probably the only bowler who has not been selected. I have nothing against anyone, I’m talking about myself.

"My only point is that everyone has had a chance and I should be given a chance in the future as well. I also want to play as much as I can,” Umesh reckoned.
