Duanne Olivier ruled out of England Test series with hip injury

Olivier has been in good rhythm since comeback

South Africa fast bowler Duanne Olivier has been sidelined of the forthcoming three-match test series against England due to a grade 2 right hip flexor muscle tear.

Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Sunday (August 14), in a media release confirmed that Olivier has been ruled out of all three Tests due to the aforementioned injury. However, the board confirmed that no replacement will be named for the Test series.

“Duanne presented with significant discomfort involving his right hip flexor muscle at the close of play on day three of the four-day tour match. After clinical assessment, he was referred for an MRI scan which revealed a grade 2 tear involving the right pectineus muscle. Due to the extent of the injury, he has been ruled out of the three-match Test series against England and will return home where he will commence his rehabilitation with the Gauteng Central Lions medical team,” informed South Africa team doctor, Dr Hashendra Ramjee.

The right arm Proteas quick sustained the injury during the four-day tour match against England Lions at The Spitfire Ground St Lawrence in Canterbury.

Olivier has been a vital cog for the Proteas

Olivier, since his return to the national side, has been a regular feature in the playing XI and his absence is a huge blow for the visiting team ahead of the all-important Test series. 

Meanwhile, there are also concerns over the fitness of spearhead Kagiso Rabada who has been battling an ankle injury. He will continuously be assessed by the medical team and his progress will be closely monitored in preparation for the upcoming three-match Test series, starting on 17 August.
