  • The Hundred 2022 Women Sb Vs Ls Mooneys Masterclass In Vain As Wyatt And Dunkley Guide Southern Brave To A Thumping Win

Mooney's masterclass in vain as Wyatt and Dunkley guide Southern Brave to a thumping win

The second game of The Hundred Women's competition saw Southern Brave thrash London Spirit comprehensively by six wickets in Southampton today. In this process, the Brave women recorded the highest ever run-chase in the Women's Hundred.

Beth Mooney’s masterclass propels London Spirit to a formidable total

After opting to bat first on the flat Southampton track, London Spirit got a decent start with Mooney and Grace Scrivens adding 36 runs for the first wicket. Mooney played the aggressor’s role, while Scrivens could manage only one run during her nine-ball stay.

Post Scrivens’ departure, promising all-rounder Amelia Kerr joined hands with the veteran Australian opener to stitch a crucial 87-run stand for the second wicket.

Although Amanda Wellington stunned the visitors by removing Kerr and Danielle Gibson in two consecutive deliveries, it couldn’t affect Mooney as the stylish southpaw smashed her way through to a blistering 97* off 55 balls, powering her team to 155 at the end of the innings.

Wellington emerged as Brave’s best bowler, scalping three wickets for 30 runs.

Wyatt and Dunkley ensure Brave’s thumping victory

Chasing 156, Southern Brave got off to a flier as the dynamic duo of Smriti Mandhana and Danielle Wyatt raced to 62 in just 37 balls. After Mandhana fell prey to Gibson, the English pair of Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley further added 35 runs in just 18 balls.

Although the Brave’s camp got slightly tensed after the fall of Wyatt and Maia Bouchier in two successive deliveries, Georgia Adams and Freya Kemp supported Dunkley with distinction, accomplishing the chase for the Brave with six balls to spare.
