I don’t feel disappointed: Shikhar Dhawan on being sidelined from the T20I squad

In the last few years, Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the most prolific batters in the shortest version of the game. Dhawan has been racking up runs in the IPL, scoring more than 450 runs in each IPL season since 2016, and surprisingly, it was during this time that he was dropped from India’s T20I team.

Despite his brilliant returns in the IPL, he has failed to earn his spot back in the nation team.

The 36-year-old was dropped from the T20I squad for the World Cup that was held in the UAE last year. He hasn’t represented India in a T20I since the tour of Sri Lanka in July 2021.

Unlike some other Indian cricketers, the left-hander gets put under the scanner after a handful of failures. Apart from T20Is, he is no longer part of the Test squad either.

Dhawan unaffected by his omission

In an interview with Sports Tak, the left-hander stated that he never feels disappointed for not getting opportunities in T20Is and Tests as he feels that he may be lacking something which throws him out of contention.

“To be honest, I don’t feel any disappointment as such. I feel that there is a time for everything, and maybe it’s not my time. Maybe I lack something that I haven’t been able to do too well. So worries, I gave my best, and that’s what matters,"  Shikhar Dhawan told Sports Tak.

Dhawan asserted that if an opportunity comes his way then he will look to give his best.

The Indian opener has revealed that he is keeping himself fit and strong in case an opportunity arises in the near future. Dhawan also added that he tried his best to perform in the Indian Premier League and he will try to do the same for his country when called upon.
