Since making his international debut in February this year, Hooda has made rapid strides in his career. The 27-year-old slammed 451 runs in 15 innings of IPL 2022 and helped Lucknow Super Giants to seal the playoffs spot.

Afterwards, he returned as top-scorer in the India-Ireland T20I series with 151 runs in two appearances.

Hooda receives a massive praise from Srikkanth

The 62-year-old former batter reckons Hooda is a strong contender for the T20 World Cup due to his strong guts and usefulness with the ball.

“Deepak Hooda is a strong contender for the T20 World Cup. I am telling you today as the former chairman of the selection committee. I am absolutely sure he will be in the final 15 for the World Cup in Australia," said Srikkanth.

"I don't go by numbers. Can Hooda deliver in Australia in the World Cup in Melbourne? Yes. How much? 60-40"

"What I like about him is guts. I like guys who play with freedom. And he is also a very good bowler. He is an intelligent bowler. He is a strong, strong contender for the final 15."

Shreyas Iyer

The prolific batter returned with 161 runs in the ODI leg of the Caribbean Tour. However, the Iyer has garnered only 34 runs in three innings of the ongoing T20I series.

Sanju Samson

He slammed 77 in his one-off T20I appearance against Ireland. In the recent ODI series against West Indies, Samson scored 72 runs in three innings, while remaining unbeaten in one of them.

Certainly, it will be a tough decision for the Indian selectors for naming the squad for Asia Cup and ultimately T20 World Cup.
