Prior to the game, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field first. The decision backfired for the hosts as each of the top four Bangladeshi batters punched out crafty half-centuries, piling up 303-2 off their 50 overs. Captain Tamim Iqbal himself landed 62 punches, and scaled the 8,000-run mark in his ODI career.

Zimbabwe’s response began on an unsteady note, losing three of their top four batsmen within the first 15 overs of their run-chase. Thereafter, Innocent Kaia and Sikandar Raza plundered majestic tons while staging a 192-run stand for the fourth-wicket.
