David Warner could head to the Sydney Thunder club for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2022 edition. The agreement between Warner and the Thunder is expected to be finalized by Saturday, August 6.

Warner was reportedly eyeing a deal with the cash-rich International League T20 (ILT20), organised by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), instead of Australia's premier T20 domestic league.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the opener is likely to be handed a contract along the lines of offers that were proposed to stars like Shane Warne, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, and Mike Hussey during the initial days of the BBL.

How much money will Warner earn?

Warner's paycheck could potentially fetch him USD 340,000, out of which Cricket Australia (CA) will pay the majority, with the remainder of the wages being paid by Thunder. This amount is on par with the price range set for overseas players in the upcoming first-ever BBL foreign Draft.

He is expected to feature in at least five matches and could potentially earn USD 70,000 per match.

Standoff between players and CA

The report also suggested that many Australian players who are top draw in the BBL are miffed that overseas cricketers could pocket a hefty amount of money, playing half the number of matches they play.

However, if Warner does sign the contract with Thunder, it could lead to other big names following suit and give the ILT20 a miss.
