Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to investigate the latest social media post of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, wherein he announced the association with "Betwinner News".

After the culmination of the board meeting on Thursday (4 August), the BCB Chief Nazmul Hassan reckoned that they will issue a show cause notice to Shakib, for not apprising them of the sponsorship deal.

On Tuesday, Shakib took to Twitter (and all his social medial handles) and posted the same development. Although the 35-year-old initially retracted the tweet, but soon reposted after few minutes.

Bangladesh's law doesn't permit betting: Hassan

BCB Chief reiterated the fact that allowing gambling business to flourish freely, is a violation of the country's constitution.

"Shakib's latest sponsorship was discussed during Thursday's meeting," Hassan said. "We have instructed to serve him a notice, to ask him what's happening with this. The board will not allow it if it is related to betting. He definitely hasn't asked us for permission. Bangladesh's law doesn't permit it. It is a serious issue. We cannot however just rely on a Facebook post (sic), so we have to investigate to find out about it."

Shakib was banned in 2019 by ICC

The star all-rounder of the Tigers was handed a one-year ban by the ICC in October 2019 after being failing to report approaches of match-fixing, and thereby breaching apex board's anti-corruption code. The approaches were made in the 2018 Tri-series and the IPL 2018 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab.

Shakib last featured for Bangladesh in a T20I fixture against West Indies in July this year. Then, he opted to take rest in the ODI leg of the Caribbean series and the Tour to Zimbabwe as well.
