In what can be termed as a pushover for South Africa, it proved to be a fairytale outing for Sune Luus and company, who bulldozed Sri Lanka on their way to a 10-wicket win.

While the match did not hold much importance in the context of the tournament as it was the battle between the cellar dwellers, South Africa gathered a consolation win to end their Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 campaign.

Masabata Klaas and Nadine de Klerk ran riot with the ball to clean up the Lankan outfit for just 46 runs. As the target was a duck soup, South Africa reached the coast in the seventh over without any loss of wicket.

No Huff and Puff!

With just 47 runs to get, the match was made into a turkey shoot for South Africa. Their openers Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits took care of the business.

It took only 6.1 overs for the duo to take Proteas to the win, with Bosch and Brits scoring 20 and 21 runs, respectively.

Sri Lanka's surrender

Put in to bat first, the Chamari Athapaththu-led unit was all over the place and eventually bundled out for 46 runs. The degree of their struggle reflects in the highest personal score (Athapaththu 15) a Sri Lanka batter recorded in the affair.

For South Africa, it panned out as a merry yarn. Bosch was their only wicketless bowler of the day, while Klerk emerged as the top-performer with the ball, claiming three scalps.

Even after the win, the Proteas crashes out of the competition, ending the tournament at the third spot in a group of four. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will fly back home with a wooden spoon.
