BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal opens on Kohli's Captaincy Saga

Last year in November, Virat Kohli had stepped down as India's T20I captain and then he was removed as the ODI leader as the selectors wanted one skipper for the white-ball formats. Soon due to the snub, the Indian megastar stepped down as India's Test captain as well, after leading the side for seven years.

The entire series of events led to significant controversy and left people wondering what is happening between the board and Kohli, as the decision to quit T20I captaincy came as a shocker to many people.

"Selectors will take a call on Virat's selection"

Discussing the matter with OneCricket's correspondent Vimal Kumar, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said that Kohli’s selection is a decision that will be taken by the selection committee, adding that the Board wants the Indian stalwart to return to his dominating best with the bat .

"See… as far as Virat (Kohli) is concerned, he is not a simple player. He is a great and his contribution to Indian cricket is unparalleled. It is outstanding. We want that he returns to form soon, and as far as team selection is concerned, we leave it to selectors," the BCCI Treasurer told OneCricket's corresspondent.

Dhumal brushed aside BCCI’s role in Kohli’s decision to leave captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2022 and revealed that it was Kohli who didn’t want to captain India and BCCI just respected his decision.

"It is possible that someone feels it’s best to do it after the World Cup but that is their point of view. But he wanted to quit, and it was purely his decision. And we respected it. See he has contributed so much to Indian cricket that everyone in the cricket board respects him," Dhumal added.

Kohli has been going through a massive slump and questions are being raised about his place in the team. Due to his poor run of form, there are talks to drop the veteran batter from the Indian team as the 33-year-old has been just a mere reflection of himself of late.
