22 July 2021
It has come as a shocker for Indian fans as just ahead of the start of the Test series against England, all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the series. After Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan, Sundar is now the third injury-related rule out from the 19 men strong Indian squad.
Sundar and Avesh, both were playing for the Select County XI against India in a three-day practice game at the Riverside Stadium in Durham and both injured their fingers in the same game. While Avesh was taken off the ground later declared ruled out of the series by BCCI in a tweet, Sundar’s news was confirmed on Thursday, July 22.
Although on the third day of the game, Sundar was still seen fielding and hence it became difficult to ascertain what level of injury is he suffering from. News Wire service ANI earlier reported that the 21-year-old spin bowling all-rounder would be ruled out for at least six weeks.
Sundar, an important member of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s squad in the upcoming leg of the Indian Premier League in UAE is also a prime contender for Team India’s squad for the T20 World Cup later this year.
