Mumbai Indians mauled RCB by seven wickets and with more than four overs to spare in match number 25 of the IPL 2024 season at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Ace paceman Jasprit Bumrah and middle-order batting stalwart Suryakumar Yadav headlined Mumbai Indians’ emphatic win, alongside opening batters Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.

After the match, winning skipper Hardik Pandya heaped a significant praise on Bumrah and Suryakumar; and also acknowledged the 100-plus opening stand staged by Sharma and Kishan at the top of the order.

Mumbai Indians catered themselves to their second successive win of the IPL 2024 season off the back of Jasprit Bumrah’s five-fer and Suryakumar Yadav’s run-chase masterclass (52 off 19). Captain Hardik Pandya himself drilled 21 unbeaten runs from just six deliveries to seal the deal in 15.3 overs.

Earlier in the run-chase, openers Ishan Kishan (34-ball 69) and Rohit Sharma (24-ball 38) shared 101 runs together from just 8.5 overs to set the stage of an emphatic win upfront.

While speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Hardik Pandya hailed both his openers; and signified the value of Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav for the Mumbai Indians team. 

“The way Ro and Ishan batted, the platform was set. The aim was to finish the game early. Lucky to have Bumrah in my side. He's a special bowler. Practices a lot. His experience and confidence helps. Always good to have SKY. His shots are brilliant.”

Hardik Pandya also acknowledged the big margin of victory, and credited the ‘Impact Player’ rule for giving him an opportunity of using an additional bowler in the innings. 

“It's always good to win. The manner of the victory was quite impressive. The Impact Player rule has given the opportunity to use an extra bowler. It gives me a cushion as well. Always helps to have more options if one of the main bowlers proves costly on a day.”

The win elevated Mumbai Indians up to number seven on the IPL 2024 points table.

Hardik Pandya will now lead his troops against the CSK in match number 29 of the tournament. The much-awaited contest will also be staged at the Wankhede Stadium on April 14.
