A master tactician with the bat, MS Dhoni was widely regarded as one of the greatest finishers in limited-overs internationals during his Team India playing days. While he held a splendid ODI batting average of 50.57 despite making 350 appearances, his average in winning causes for the Indian team amounted to a staggering 69.

Moreover, Dhoni held a ‘Bradman-esque’ average of 102.71 in successful run-chases for the ‘Men in Blue’, which continues to remain the highest among all batters in ODI history.

Despite his stellar record in ODIs and T20Is for India, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter was subjected to much criticism from fans and cricket experts for often risking crucial run-chases by taking them deep into the final over.

Fellow chase master Virat Kohli, who continues to share a great camaraderie with MS Dhoni, recently slammed such unwanted criticism and defended the run-chase tactics of India’s World Cup winning skipper.

While speaking on JioCinema ahead of RCB’s IPL 2024 virtual knockout clash against defending champions CSK, Virat Kohli hailed MS Dhoni for consistently pulling off strategically-planned run-chases in limited-overs matches.

Kohli also slammed unwanted criticism aimed at Dhoni, and said that the former Indian captain had his own style of approaching run-chases. The RCB opener further described that his own personal style slightly differed from Dhoni.

While MS Dhoni has restricted himself with the bat this IPL 2024 season, the cricketer has made the most of the limited opportunities he has received.

In his first 10 innings of the tournament, the cricketer blasted 136 runs at a staggering strike-rate of 226.66 and an average of 68.
