In a shocking development, Rishabh Pant, the DC skipper, confirmed on Wednesday that David Warner, one of the finest overseas openers in the history of the IPL, won't be playing for them in Match 32 of the IPL 2024, taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The veteran opener suffered a finger injury just before the game, resulting in him being sidelined in the all-important fixture.


"We are playing the same XI but Warner misses due to injury and Sumit comes in," Pant said after winning the toss and opting to field first against Shubman Gill and his boys.

Warner had only one 50+ score in six outings in IPL 2024 until picking up an injury, which, of course, did not help DC get a fluent start in the competition. He made 8, 10, 18, 52, 49, and 29, with the sole half-century coming against Chennai Super Kings in Vizag.

Having won twice and lost four matches, Delhi are placed ninth on the points table. Their opposition, Gujarat, are sixth on the list, with three wins and as many defeats.

Meanwhile in Warner's absence, DC are going with three overseas players in their playing XI.
